Notes

Lead vocals - Weir.

Correct title, as recorded by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, is Dancing In The Street.

Occurs on Terrapin Station (1977) as Dancin' In The Streets and this title has become the accepted title on set lists and tape labels.

Dick's Pick IV (a show from 1970) has Dancing In The Streets. Dick's Pick III (a show from 1977) has Dancin' In The Streets. This distinction on Dead recordings between Dancing and Dancin' can be seen as a distinction between the different arrangements of the song played by the Dead pre- and post-1975.

However for consistency sake only one title can be used in DeadLists.

According to Stevenson the song was inspired by the sight of a group of multi-racial kids playing in the spray from a fire hydrant on hot summer evening in Detroit in the Summer of 1964 - "All the hatred and prejudice in the world, and these kids had no concept of it.".

The version on Fallout From The Phil Zone (1997) is from April 12, 1970 show in San Francisco.
