A Paul McCartney song.
The single, produced by George Martin, was released in the UK on the 11th April 1969 and in the US on the 5th May 69. The single gives the performers as The Beatles & Billy Preston - giving Preston the distinction of being the only person to share credits with the Beatles on record. The song was remixed by Phil Spector for inclusion on Let It Be.
The released versions of the song are less controversial than earlier versions. Originally written as a satire on British immigration laws. One enduring topic of argument amongst Beatles commentators is whether the original versions were anti-racist or racist.
At the end of the alvbum version of the song McCartney is heard to say, "Thanks, Mo" - referring to Ringo's wife Maureen Starkey who was applauding in the background.
