Performed by the Beach Boys during the Dead/Beach Boys set on 27th April 1971. Members of the Dead did not contribute to this song or to Good Vibrations.

Brian Wilson has said,

"I Get Around is about my competitive nature, a lot of people were making great records, like the Beatles, Phil Spector and Bob Crewe. I needed to fight back a little bit. It was an answer to 'My Boyfriend's Back' in the way it was produced."

"It's a kind of social lyric. It's about going places, making good money, going around from town to town. It represents Americana."

"I used a good rhythm with echo and hand claps. It was done in out commercial style with a bass singer, falsetto and midrange background parts. I used Spector techniques for the instrumental tracks and a standard 4/4 rhythm."

Original Beach Boys single had Don't Worry Baby on the flip side.
