Performance History

Played by the Wildwood Boys at the Tangent in Palo Alto on February 23rd 1963.

Not performed by the Grateful Dead. Occurs only on pre-Dead tapes featuring future members of the dead.

Notes

The traditional song is I Shall Not Be Moved. This was adapted during the 30s as a protest song and renamed We Shall Not Be Moved. In the version performed by the Wildwood Boys the 'We shall not be moved' phrase is used in the chorus but otherwise the song is as the traditional song so that title is used here.

The recordings listed above include versions of both songs.

Here are the lyrics used;

We shall not, we shall not be moved,
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
We shall not be moved.

Jesus is my saviour, I shall not be moved,
Jesus is my saviour, I shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
I shall not be moved.

We shall not, we shall not be moved,
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
We shall not be moved.

(?), I shall not be moved,
(?), I shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
I shall not be moved.

We shall not, we shall not be moved,
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
We shall not be moved.

We shall not, we shall not be moved,
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
Just like the tree standing by the water,
We shall not be moved.
