One [33:32:00] ; Morning Dew ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Dark Star [#6:24] > China Cat Sunflower [4:41] > The Eleven [6:23] > Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) [17:01#]
Comments David Lemieux has given an interview to the Music Box in which he revealed all regarding Dick's Picks #22, which was recorded at this run of shows. There were 6 or 7 reels (10 inch reels at 15 ips, two track quarter inch tape). The reels labeled one and two were missing all the vocals and one of the drummers. David thinks its Billy that got left out of the signal that went to the recorder on those tapes. The first two reels are believed to be from the 22nd, because some songs on the reel labeled "Three" are songs repeated from reels one and two. None of 2/22/68 was used for Dick's Picks #22. David recalled that two of the songs that were played on 2/22/68 were Morning Dew and Beat it on Down the Line.

The end of this show was posted on the February 12-18, 2007 Taper's Section web page on Dead.net. It can be listened to online. The lyrics are so low in the mix they can barely be heard in only a few places. The beginning of Dark Star is clipped off, as is the end of Caution. Caution was probably followed by Feedback, as it usually was in early 1968.
Recordings None in circulation as of 2/02.

Comments David Lemieux has given an interview to the Music Box in which he revealed all regarding Dick's Picks #22, which was recorded at this run of shows. There were 6 or 7 reels (10 inch reels at 15 ips, two track quarter inch tape). Disc #1 from Dick's Picks #22 is probably from 2/23/68 and disc #2 is probably from 2/24/68. What we have are not the complete shows, since a couple of repeated songs and songs with splices in them were left off. Although the packageing material for the Grayfolded CD set states that a Dark Star from 2/24/68 was sampled, it was the version on CD 1 of Dick's Picks #22 - and that disc is believed to probably be from 2/23/68.
Recordings 68 SB (Dick's Picks #22, disc 1).

(1) the that's it For the Other one suite and New Potato Caboose are without Billy. (2) After New Potato, Phil says, "If Bill Kreutzman will just come back up on the stage and play some more music with us, I promise never to say anything nasty about him." Billy has recalled he had been skiing all day and was tired, so he sat out for a few minutes. (3) this Alligator is included as part of track #7 (listed as the Eleven) on Dick's Picks #22. It begins at 5:53 on the timer and runs to 7:00. (4) this Drums overlaps tracks #7 (listed as the Eleven) and track #8 (listed as Alligator) on Dick's Picks #22. It begins at 7:00 and runs for the last 16 seconds of track #7, and goes up to 3:34 in track #8. Within track #8, "Alligator runnin' round my door" vocals begin at 1:37 and Jerry joins in with an Alligator solo at 2:40. (5) Alligator itself begins full force at 3:43 in track #8. At 5:12 Jerry is playing the AWBYGN theme. (6) Pigpen: "That mojo worked pretty good." David Lemieux also confirms that a part of Feedback from 2/24/68 was used on Anthem of the Sun. He said to listen for the siren sound heard at about 3:17 on disc #2 of Dick's Picks #22 in order to find it. Although the packageing material for the Grayfolded CD set states that a Dark Star from 2/24/68 was sampled, it was the version on CD 1 of Dick's Picks #22 - and that disc is believed to probably be from 2/23/68.
Recordings 79 SB (Dick's Picks #22, disc 2), and sampled for Anthem of the Sun. John Oswald used a portion of this Dark Star in his Greyfolded project. Tapes of 02/14/68 set I often circulate with this date.
